EDALE-BASED Katy Whittaker's climbing career is reaching new heights as she embarks on a marathon 15-week European training trip, thanks in part to sponsorship from Lafarge Cement's Hope Works.
Katy, 19, will travel to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain to take on some of these countries' most challenging climbs and build on her skills.

Having claimed top places in several national events this year she will take part in the 'World Bouldering Cup' in Fiera, Italy, the British Lead Climbing Championships in Blackpool, and the British Bouldering Championships in Sheffield.

Katy said: "This next phase of trying out challenging climbs around Europe will really help me expand my experience and stand me in good stead for competitions later in the year.

"I am very grateful to Lafarge for its continued support – this kind of sponsorship makes a real difference when I am raising funds for training and competition travel and expenses."

Hope Works manager Ashley Bryan said: "Katy is hugely dedicated to her sport and having seen her practice and heard about the kinds of climbs she is doing I am very impressed.

"We are pleased to be able to support her and very much hope that this intense training spurs her on to even more prizes and accolades in the future."
