DERBYSHIRE Enterprise Agency (DEA) says the tough talking on TV programmes such as The Apprentice could be putting people off starting up for themselves – and has launched a major campaign to encourage more people in High Peak to start up in business.
The Agency, which delivers Business Link start-up services in the county, says that while programmes focusing on entrepreneurs and new ideas have been very helpful in raising the profile of business in general, some of the tactics are actually off-putting.

Contracts manager Andrea Huscroft said: "The message we want to get across is that you don't have to be a 'tough guy' or a genius inventor to start up on your own. If you're prepared to commit yourself and work hard, Derbyshire Enterprise Agency can help you get off the ground."

The first in a programme of free events that will help people decide whether they want to try starting their own business, 'Is it for you?' is to be held at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield on Saturday.

DEA has Business Link start-up advisers working at The Dome, Buxton and High Peak Borough Council Offices in Glossop and Chinley.
