A LONG-STANDING member of the Chapel-en-le-Frith community has been made an Honorary Townsman in recognition of his distinguished service to the parish.
Councillor Peter Harrison is only the fourth person in Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council's history to receive the accolade.
It recognises his 25 years of continuous service on the parish council, during which he has twice been chairman, between 1990 to 1992 and 2004 to 2006. He has also been a member of the Peak District National Park Authority and High Peak Borough Council.
"Thank-you very much. I consider it to be an honour and I am absolutely delighted," he told councillors at a meeting of the parish council last week.
Cllr Harrison will be presented with his award by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, John Bather, during a dinner at the Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton later in the year.
Previous recipients of the Honorary Townsman include Ann Young, Muriel Bradbury MBE and Herbert Lomas.
