THE recent diagnosis that she had Multiple Sclerosis inspired Chapel resident Chris Mellor to raise awareness of the condition and raise funds for the local branch of the MS Society.
Walkers and motorised scooter users, many in fancy dress met at Morrison's supermarket on Saturday to collects funds. They went on to Buxton and collected funds for the charity from shoppers in Spring Gardens and visitors to the Pavilion Gardens.
Chris, who turned her scooter into a pirate ship, said: "Everybody has been really fantastically helpful, including Morrison's supermarket, the police in Chapel and Buxton, Dove Holes Community Centre and High Peak Council for allowing us to fundraise in Spring Gardens and the Pavilion Gardens.
"I am honoured that our trip will be started on its way by the Mayor of High Peak Robin Baldry."
Martin Stevens, Chairman of the Macclesfield and District branch of the society said: "Other than to raise money for what is a great cause, the supporters are taking part for the fun and to increase local awareness of multiple sclerosis.
"This demonstrates how keen those with MS are to no let their condition stop them leading a full life."
