THE fifth annual Dove Holes garden competition on Saturday saw a beautiful sunny, summer afternoon highlight stunning entries.
Supported by the Dove Holes Village Group and sponsored by Armcon, suppliers to the gardening industry, the quality of entries was again very varied and impressive.

Local judge, Cllr Mike Harrison, vice chair of Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council said. "I have been incredibly impressed and admittedly surprised by the hidden oasis of Dove Holes."

The winners of the Best Overall Garden were Lillian and Stephen Norton of Dale Road, who had entered for the first time with, an imaginative use of space and abundance of colour. They also gained first place in the Best Use of Space and Best Use of Stone Products categories.

Wilf Sheard gained the trophy for Best Containers for the variety of flowers and vegetables throughout his and wife Vera's colourful garden.

This year saw the introduction of a category for Gardens at Night. Winner Marion Wright of Meadow Close used solar powered lights to provide very dramatic highlighting on her small but beautiful garden. Special commendation went to Mike Ford of Beaumont Drive for the quality of his immaculate lawns.

If you would like to join the mailing list to enter next year, contact Sara Armstrong on 01298 811046. The organisers thank everyone who took part and showed in a very practical way that at its heart Dove Holes is a very green and pleasant place to live.
