£493,000 spent on extending Glossop school

PUPILS will have more space for lessons after work started on a new extension at Simmondley Primary School, Glossop to alleviate overcrowding.
Construction has begun on a two classroom extension and new toilets.
Existing buildings at the front of the school will be remodelled to create a new staff room and administration area, and a headteacher's office.
The scheme, which will cost £493,726, was given the go-ahead by Derbyshire County Council.Councillor Alan Charles said: "We are pleased to give the go-ahead to this scheme which will provide excellent new facilities for staff and pupils.
"It will ease the pressure on space which is currently experienced at the school.
"We are committed to helping all our children learn and succeed in the best possible environment and this is an example of that."
The building work is expected to be completed so that the classrooms are ready for use when the new academic year begins in September.
And the school has secured grant funding from the Royal Bank of Scotland's Supergrounds scheme to develop a play area, landscape gardens, and a quiet area for pupils.
