'The Great Gentleman of Song' Al Martino will be making an exciting appearance with his Orchestra at Buxton Opera House on Thursday September 11.
Al, who famously played Johnny Fontaine in Francis Ford Coppola's movie The Godfather, made his singing debut 50 years ago in Philadelphia with the song Here In My Heart. In 1952 the song went into the Guinness Book of World Records as the first British number one single.

Al has since achieved numerous international hit records including Spanish Eyes, a song which gained several gold and platinum awards for sales and is still classed as one of the 50 most-played songs worldwide.

Al Martino, born Alfred Cini, spent his early years working in the family's construction business, but in the evenings he used what little free time he had to work on his passion for music, performing in clubs and bars in his neighbourhood.

Mario Lanza, already a celebrity at the time and friend of the family, encouraged young Martino to pursue a musical career, and to move to New York.

This paid off, and by 1950 Martino landed a much sought-after record deal with Capitol Records.

When Lanza was approached by Capitol to sing Here In My Heart, time constraints on his schedule provided the opportunity for newcomer Al Martino to step in and sing the song. From this point on, Al occupied a place at the zenith of international show business. His recording and concert success extended not only throughout America, but included Europe, especially Germany, and Australia.

Al Martino's distinct personal charisma and unique vocal style secured him an army of fans which have charted his success for over four decades. Martino has never failed to deliver hit songs to the public in his own inimitable style.

Memorable songs such as Painted Tainted Rose, Living a Lie, I Love You More And More Every Day, Tears And Roses, Mary In The Morning, I Love You Because, Can't Help Falling In Love and To The Door of the Sun, leave Al with an enduring legacy.

Don't miss this classic crooner when he comes to Buxton to celebrate a lifetime of classic hits.

The show begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £20.50 and £22.50 and discounts are available. To make a booking, call the Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
