ON BEHALF of our committee may I pass on our thanks to all the people who have been involved with this year's Buxton Wells Dressing Festival.
The team of well dressers did a wonderful job and once again produced some first rate wells, in fact all the events have been well supported, starting with the Children's Art competition through to Carnival day.
We were glad to see the rain stopp
ing on Saturday and allowing one of the largest Carnival Processions we have seen for a number of years to remain dry, although on Friday we were on the point of having to cancel through a lack of Marshals, but with thanks to High Peak Radio and The Buxton Advertiser publicising our problem we had 20 volunteers come forward including students from Derby University Buxton so special thanks to all the people who came forward at such short notice.
The work that all the entrants put into the decorated floats was superb and made a really special event. The concert in the Crescent was a great success with crowds enjoying some excellent entertainment from the best of our local bands.
Thanks to the judges and entrants to the Pet Show on Sunday, where we had over 100 entrants who enjoyed a warm sunny day!
So if you helped in any way, supported us financially or took part in any of the competitions, then our thanks to you for making this, our town's oldest traditional event, such a success.
The whole event will have cost close to £16,000 so we start now fundraising and planning for 2009.
The 2008 Festival Queen and Retinue will be promoting our town throughout the coming year and if anyone wishes to help in organising next year's event you can contact me on 01298 71352.
