IT IS wonderful that Israel has survived 60 years through all the wars that it has had, but does it really need Anne Lomax to be an apologist for it?
The lesson that she tries to teach us is common knowledge to those who take an interest in such things, and of no interest whatsoever to those who don't. What is so annoying is the way she attempts to re-write history to fit the facts.
Israel has
got enemies, it always has had, including the British (or does she conveniently forget the public hanging of our officers?), but the way it is currently conducting itself does it no favours. Has she forgotten all the United Nations directives against the country to cease illegal activities (such as expanding its buildings on Arab territory)?
Years ago Israel decided that anyone who criticized it politically must be anti-Semite, though there is no connection between the two. Anyone should be at liberty to criticise a country for its political stance, though not Israel, apparently. This trick has now been taken on board by Muslim countries. criticise the politics and you are Islamophobic.
Israel has done a lot of terrible things which have been ignored because of the anti-Semite threats and the power of the United States. Israel has become a nuclear power bullyboy. There have been a few occasions in the past when peace could have come to the Middle East, sometimes it was held back by the Arab Nations, sometimes by Israel itself.
It says it wants peace but it isn't prepared to negotiate, it just makes demands. Now it is building a wall it has been ordered to stop building which is going to take all the water away from Arabs. Is this any way to behave? It's time that Israel and its apologists started living up to their responsibilities if it wants the state to be accepted, fully, into the World community.
