Buxton WI: After discussing resolutions, members voted for the one they wanted to go forward to the London AGM. The rest of the meeting had an Olympic theme, with anagrams of the events to be solved – although the correct order of the circles on the flag proved difficult to remember. Special refreshments were served by the committee and the meeting ended with a song about Beijing. The next meeting will be on June 16, 2pm.

Sparrowpit WI: held their resolutions meeting recently and were pleased to welcome Denise Porter, WI adviser from Glossop.

One of the two resolutions - the inappropriate imprisonment of the severely mentally ill - was supported with some good discussion on the subject.

The other, the ban on sea-bed trawling, was questioned, and resulted in an almost 50-50 result. Denise Porter was thanked by Enid Phillips.

A break for tea and cake was followed by a nautical quiz presented by Mary Williamson, with Pam Sutherland's team winning the seaside prizes.

Members recently took part in a litter pick around Chapel-en-le-Frith, collecting about nine bags of rubbish.
