HORWICH End WI voted to call on the National AGM to pass the resolutions for more appropriate forms of punishment for mentally ill criminals, particularly with regard to the effects on families, and for the curtailment of sea-bed trawling.
Jill Malzard described life on the narrow boat in which she and her husband journey around the country most summers., and Mary Nother gave details of the Whaley Bridge and District Volunteer Centre to which she has belonged since retiring.

aylor talked about her involvement with U3A groups in Buxton - music appreciation, singing for fun and art and architecture.

Finally, Hilda Burgess related her holiday, organised by a previous county chairman, in New Zealand. They also met local WIs and Hilda contacted friends from home.

The Garden Group had a lovely visit to One House Nursery at Rainow and are planning a trip to Arley Hall in June.

Chapel WI will host the Group summer walk and outings are planned to the Air Raid Shelters in Stockport and Southport.

lmembers of Chinley and Buxworth WI enjoyed a talk and instruction in the art of Pilates. Mrs Madeline Lynch was the speaker/instructor. Members joined in with the exercises and all enjoyed the evening. Mrs Ella White won the Sun Hat competition and Mrs Doreen Eaton won the raffle. Coffee and Chat dates are 17th June and 1st July all welcome. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.30, new members welcome.

* Fairfield WI have had a very busy time since their last meeting with trips to see Oklahoma, a long weekend in Ostend and a visit to Derby with a guided tour of the Cathedral.

The May meeting was well attended and the National Resolutions for the year discussed at length. Members decided to back those calling for the Government to stop imprisoning mentally-ill patients and ensure that they received psychiatric treatment, and for a ban on ocean bed trawling.

Mr J Coulter gave an interesting talk on tracing a long-lost relative, telling how he found details about his father, having lost touch 53 years before. He also showed the many rewards of building up a family tree.

He was thanked by Mrs M Bramwell.

Future plans include a guided walk around Tideswell, lunch at the Dome, a summer picnic and a day trip to Liverpool.
