The Hall, north-east of Chesterfield, has been the home of the Sitwell Family for over 350 years. Built as a manor house in 1625 by George Sitwell it has been extended and altered over the years. and became famous through the writings of Edith, Osbert and Sacheverall the three grandchildren of Sir George and Lady Ida Sitwell.
The Sitwell family knew prominent literary and artistic figures of the twentieth century. The Museum and Galleries in the stables had a rich variety of material and exhibits from the Sitwell archives.
The beautiful gardens and woodland walks were also explored.
