VISITORS to Bugsworth Basin could soon be travelling in style under an ambitious scheme to run a waterbus between Whaley Bridge Basin and Bugsworth Basin on the Peak Forest Canal.
British Waterways has secured funding from East Midlands Development Agency (emda) to manage the scheme – now a boat owning operator is being sought for the two-year project commencing in spring 2009.

British Waterways' North West External Funding Officer Nick Smith said the contract would be awarded to the operator who successfully combined first rate product quality with high standards of service.

"The service is initially based on a fixed price contract covering the full operating costs of the service over the first two years. This trial period will show if the project is commercially viable," he said.

The initiative is part of 'Destination Bugsworth' an ambitious partnership designed to ensure the area's industrial revolution legacy provides an educational and entertaining experience for the growing number of visitors.
