The flag celebrates London becoming the official Olympic Games host city from Sunday 24 August.

It is the first of its kind in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and is one of over 500 flags that have been delivered to locations around the UK.

Among the locations in the UK, Olympic Handover Flags will fly at landmark areas such as Unst in the Sheltland Isles, the most northerly point in the UK and Lands End in Cornwall, the most southerly point.
Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Community and Social Development, was joined by High Peak's talented swimmer, and Olympic hopeful Russell Smith to hoist the flag.

Councillor Bingham, said: "We are delighted to be able to take part in this historic event. During the run up to 2012, the Council will be exploring ways of promoting sport and healthier living to ensure that the legacy of the London Olympic Games will be long lasting."

He added: "The next 4 years will attract a lot of opportunity nationally and we will be exploring ways for High Peak residents and businesses to benefit from the prosperity."
