High Peak Borough Council have formed a partnership with the UK's leading waste management company, Veolia Environmental Services – and saved £100,000 for taxpayers.
The new contract will help High Peak residents recycle, reduce and reuse waste with a brand new fleet of high performing vehicles.
This new seven-year contract started this month for the collection of all commercial and domestic waste and recycl
ing from the Borough's homes and businesses.
The new fleet of vehicles is designed to improve the efficiency of kerbside collections as well as maximise High Peak's overall recycling rates.
"Working in partnership with High Peak Borough Council, Veolia will make recycling easier and more effective for all residents of the area.
John Haken, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Councillor for the Environment said: "Our improved recycling rates, which hit 42% in May, show our residents' dedication and commitment to the environment.
"We are very aware of the environmental impact of our waste and are very excited about this new contract and fleet of vehicles that will help us to further improve our recycling rates over the next seven years.
"Our partnership with Veolia will allow us to continue meeting our
recycling targets and therefore greatly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, improving both our local and global environment."
He went on to say: "Council staff have been transferred to provide the service, and will be working with an organisation that is renowned for its expertise in recycling and waste management.
"This contract will provide excellent value for money for our residents, saving them over £100,000 a year.
Veolia's Executive Director for Environmental Services, Tom Spaul said: "We are delighted to be starting our long term partnership with the Council and look forward to rolling out the new vehicles in early August, providing an excellent service to the residents of High Peak."
