The Buxton Advertiser and its predecessor titles have been serving readers across the High Peak for more than 150 years. The story began on July 23, 1842, when the town's first newspaper's, the quaintly titled Buxton Herald and Gazette of Fashion, was published and remained in existence as The Herald for over 100 years.
Later in the 19th century, the Buxton Advertiser came into being and the two publications were subsequently joined by the High Peak News.
The Herald went out of existence around 1950 and the High Peak News followed some ten years later. Both were absorbed into the Advertiser and are recalled each Thursday on the paper's masthead.
The Advertiser remains very much the community's paper, attempting to do justice to the activities of the area's countless groups and charities, alongside the news stories of the week.
