BUXTON boss John Reed has expressed his delight after his side got off to the best possible start in the new UniBond Premier season.
Goals from Michael Towey and new signing Gav Knight ensured the Bucks returned from Whitby Town on Saturday with three points, recording the league's only away win of the day.

"It was one of the best starts to the season in terms of the first game
that I think I've ever had," Reed told the Advertiser.

"Defensively, I thought our back four of (Scott) Maxfield, (Mark) Hume, (Grant) Black and (Gregg) Anderson were absolutely outstanding. (Mark) Lees and (Michael) Towey in midfield completely snuffed out Mark Tinkler and Lee Nogan, who between them have probably had 600 league games.

"I was happy for Gav Knight. He was outstanding and is going to score a lot of goals for us.

"It has given us the perfect platform to build on.

"I wont say we need to keep playing like that because we need to get better and stronger, but of the 150 or so who went from Buxton, I don't think there will be many people who were happy with that display.

"Hopefully it has set us up for the games coming up.

"We are looking fit, pushing forward to goal, and they are important things.

"We are also getting goals and as a manager, shape, set play and fitness are three key elements I look for and I think we are ticking the boxes of all three."
