The eagerly awaited all ticket tie saw a relatively evenly matched game as the two teams cancelled each other out in the middle of the park.

But the Red Rebels just edged it with Jamie Baguley's 64th minute goal securing them three points.

Buxton did create chances in the first half but, as with their midweek game against Ilkeston, their finishing skills were far from evident.

Good movement and good work were displayed by the Bucks but they just couldn't follow it through and capitalise on their efforts.

With seven minutes gone, Paul Walker's close range shot was tipped over the bar before the best chance of the first half fell to Gav Knight. With only keeper Sam Ashton to beat, Knight tried to curl the ball over his head but Ashton collected it first.

The visitors' Simon Carden tried to hit back with 18 minutes gone but Scott Maxfield did well in defence. Steve Brodie's header went wide on 21 minutes before Walker shot straight to the keeper on 25 minutes.

Just before the half hour mark, FC United curled a good free kick into the box before Knight missed another gilt edged chance on 30 minutes.

Despite a series of chances at both ends, the half ended in deadlock.

Five minutes into the second period, Buxton looked to have taken the lead following a good ball into the area by Gregg Anderson, but the shot went agonisingly wide.

With an hour on the clock, FC United saw a good chance denied by excellent defensive work from Anderson.

Buxton responded immediately with the counter attack movement seeing an excellent ball from Michael Towey find Mark Hume, whose shot was too weak to trouble Ashton in the visitors net.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 64th minute when Baguley's shot slipped past Scott Hartley.

From then on, the visitors were pretty much in control of the game as they pushed on searching for their second goal.

The arrival of Mark Balfe, Mark Wilson and Pat McGuire as substitutes gave the home side a short boost, but it was too little, too late as the game ended in a second home defeat for the Bucks in a week.
