Without the likes of Bowker, injured, and Hartley and Walker on holidays, Buxton were slow out of the traps and paid the penalty by conceding three early goals to a Town side which is one of the pre-season favourites for promotion from League Two.
The homesters made their first clear opening as the hard-running Gavin Knight set up Mark Hume, but he snatched his shot wide.
Then Town showed finishing power in spades to go 3-0 up.
First Guy Madjo slotted home from a Dave Hibbert pull back. Then the Buxton defence failed to deal with a Steve Leslie corner and skipper Langmead netted.
Finally, Hibbert himself netted from a narrow angle.
Though their defending against quality opposition had been catastrophic, Buxton's passing game worked increasingly well as the game progressed and a number of chances were created at both ends.
Occasionally, desperate defending kept the home goal intact for the remainder of the game, while chances came and went at the other end until six minutes from the end when Bucks scored the best goal of the game.
Gavin Knight and Mark Balfe combined well to set up a 20-yard low drive by Michael Towey, soundly beating keeper Scott Bevan.
Later, James Turley, nearly snatched another for the Bucks.
